Police made arrests in separate assault cases late Friday night.
At about 10:20 p.m., a 40-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 48-year-old man in Waipahu with an unspecified “dangerous instrument.”
Shortly after 12:40 a.m. Saturday, an officer found the suspect on Pahu Street and arrested him on suspicion of second-degree assault.
At about 11:50 p.m., police said, an argument escalated between two men in Waikiki. Police arrested a 34-year-old man after he allegedly assaulted a 41-year-old man.
Police were called and the younger man was arrested at the Sheraton Waikiki on suspicion of second-degree assault and third-degree assault.
Snorkeler who drowned in Waianae is ID’d
A snorkeler who drowned off Makua Beach in Waianae has been identified as Rodney Olmstead.
Olmstead, 50, of Oregon, was found unresponsive in the ocean Monday morning. A boat picked him up at about 8:30 a.m. and paramedics took him to an area hospital, where he died.
Police said there were no signs of foul play.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office classified the manner of the death as an accident.
