The biggest star in ONE Championship rolls on.
Mililani’s Angela Lee, the 20-year-old women’s world atomweight champion regarded as the top draw in ONE, remained undefeated in her professional mixed martial arts career with a second-round submission victory over Istela Nunes in the main event of ONE Championship: Dynasty of Heroes on Friday night at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.
Lee (8-0) won her sixth fight by submission when Nunes (5-1) was forced to tap out to an anaconda choke at 2 minutes, 18 seconds of the second round.
The victory was the sixth for Lee in two rounds or less and seventh via stoppage.
“The anaconda is one of my favorite moves,” Lee said in the cage following the win. “My brother, Christian, finished one of his fights with it so it’s one of our favorites.”
With her brother and mom and dad in her corner, Lee walked out to a loud ovation as she defended her belt for the second time in 76 days.
Following March’s win over Jenny Huang, Lee continued to dominate the organization’s 115-pound division with an all-around skill set that has yet to be matched.
Nunes, a Muay Thai champion, was able to get the better part of most exchanges standing, but had no answer for Lee’s takedowns and grappling.
Lee used a judo throw to get Nunes on the mat in the first round and Nunes had to fight off a twister submission attempt from Lee.
Nunes spent the last 60 seconds of the round getting punched repeatedly in the face with one arm stuck behind Lee’s body.
She survived, but had no answer for a choke attempt from Lee in the second round that forced the fight to the ground.
Lee eventually switched chokes into an anaconda move that finished the fight.
“It’s an honor for me to fight here every single time,” said Lee, whose father, Ken, was born in Singapore. “It’s an honor for me to be your champion.”
