Kauai’s Tatiana Weston-Webb advanced to the final round of the Outerknown Fiji Women’s Pro on Tuesday in Tavarua, Fiji. Weston-Webb narrowly beat Australian Sally Fitzgibbons in the semifinals, with a score of 13.54 to 13.40. She also defeated fellow local surfer Carissa Moore in the quarterfinals, winning by 0.57 points.
Weston-Webb will face California’s Courtney Conlogue in today’s final heat, surf permitting.
HPU tennis programs ranked in top 10
The Hawaii Pacific men’s and women’s tennis programs finished in the top 10 of the Oracle/ITA Division II rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Wednesday.
The men’s team (17-5) finished the season ranked No. 4 after falling to national champion West Florida in the NCAA quarterfinals. The women’s squad (16-6) placed sixth after a loss in the NCAA semifinals.
Five HPU student-athletes received All-American honors from the ITA. Junior Filip Dolezel and senior Torben Otto were named All-Americans in singles, while senior Jakub Hadrava earned All-American honors in doubles. Dolezel finished 13-3 and ranked eighth nationally, while Otto recorded 16 wins and a pair of losses as the 10th-ranked singles player. Hadrava teamed with Dolezel as the third-best doubles team in the nation.
On the women’s side, senior Nicole Hoynaski and junior Lara Meccico earned All-America honors in the singles division. Hoynaski posted a 19-1 record in the No. 1 singles spot and finished the season second nationally. Meccico ranked 14th in the nation with a 17-2 record.
