Excessive speed was a factor in a motorcycle crash Saturday morning on the H-3 freeway in Kaneohe, police said.
A 22-year-old Kailua man was heading Kaneohe-bound on the freeway when he lost control and struck a guardrail at about 9:20 a.m., police said. The man, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Hiker rescued from Crouching Lion trail
Fire rescue crews plucked an injured hiker from the trail above the Crouching Lion on Saturday.
Sixteen firefighters from five units, including the Air 1 helicopter, responded to the call shortly after 11 a.m.
A man in his 20s suffered an unspecified medical emergency and slid a few feet off the trail, Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Michael Jones said by email.
Crews hiked up and helped the man to the trailhead, where he was transferred to an ambulance just after 11:30 a.m.
3 displaced after Makiki apartment fire
Fire crews put out an early-morning apartment fire in Makiki on Saturday.
The call came in at 5:35 a.m. from a four-story building at 1404 Kewalo St. Nine fire companies with 35 personnel responded and had the two-alarm fire under control just after 6 a.m., Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Michael Jones said by email. It was extinguished by 6:15 a.m. The cause and damage estimates are under investigation.
The American Red Cross helped a family of three affected by the blaze.
