A preliminary hearing is scheduled at Honolulu District Court today for a 27-year-old man accused of using a stun gun to rob a 63-year-old man.

Gordon R. Phillips Jr. was charged Friday with second-degree robbery in connection with the May 27 incident in the Diamond Head area. His bail was set at $100,000.

At about 3:30 p.m., police said, the victim received a call from an unknown man later identified as Phillips from a cellphone belonging to the victim’s wife. Phillips told the victim he wanted to meet him to return the phone he found, according to a police affidavit.

The two men met, and at some point the victim accepted a ride from Phillips. According to the affidavit, Phillips drove the victim toward the Diamond Head lookout, where he demanded $100 for the ride.

When the victim refused, Phillips parked on the side of Diamond Head Road and opened the rear side passenger door. The victim told police he was then pulled out of the vehicle and “shocked by a stun gun several times on his chest and his back area,” the court document said.

Phillips allegedly grabbed the victim’s bag from his hand and fled in the vehicle. Police said the 63-year-old man sought help from two witnesses, and they called 911.

At about 5:50 p.m. Thursday, police said, they arrested Phillips at Ulehawa Beach Park in Waianae when he got out of the water after wading in the ocean for hours.
