WAILUKU >> Five elementary schools and Molokai High and Intermediate School will be serving free breakfast and lunch to students 18 and younger as part of the federally funded Seamless Summer Option program.
The Maui News reported Sunday that the meals will be served Monday to Friday, except June 12 and July 4.
According to the Department of Education, Hana, Kahului, Lihikai, Waihee and Wailuku elementary schools will participate in the program.
The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and was established to ensure that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals during the summer.
An eligible school must have 50 percent or more of its regularly enrolled students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches and offer some type of summer program on campus.

State warns of sewage fouling Puhi Bay water
State health officials are advising the public to stay out of the water at Puhi Bay on the Big Island because of a sewage spill from a leaking pipe from a wastewater treatment plant.
The Department of Health’s Clean Water Branch said the source of the spill is treated wastewaster discharge from an outfall pipe at the Hilo Wastewater Treatment Plant. Water samples are being collected.
Health officials advised the public to stay out of the water near the Pacific Aquaculture and Coastal Resource Center until warning signs are removed.
