Two men are in custody after one of them allegedly stabbed a man near the Pagoda Hotel on Saturday night.
Police said a 66-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault, and a 40-year-old man was in custody for allegedly hindering prosecution. Both are Class C felonies.
EMS said the 29-year-old man who was stabbed was taken to The Queen’s Medical Center. He was transported from the Pagoda Hotel at 9:51 p.m. Saturday in serious condition.
A 50-year-old man was treated by paramedics for lacerations on his hand. He refused to be taken to a hospital.
HPD said the case is under investigation.
2 hikers rescued on Kaau Crater Trail
Honolulu firefighters were busy Sunday night rescuing a father and daughter who became disoriented while hiking after dark on Kaau Crater Trail.
The father, in his 60s, and the daughter, in her 20s, began hiking at noon and called for assistance at about 8 p.m., said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. David Jenkins.
“They got caught by darkness and became lost near the second falls location. They were about an hour and a half up the trail,” Jenkins said.
By 9:30 p.m. both hikers had been rescued by helicopter, Jenkins said. No injuries were reported, he said. Five fire companies and 15 personnel responded to the call, Jenkins said.
Firefighters also responded to a report of lost hikers at Kahana Valley Road at 8:16 p.m. Sunday. The first fire company got to the site less than 15 minutes later to discover that the incident had already been resolved, Jenkins said. The hikers — two men, a woman and an 8-year-old boy — got out of the forest and made it to the end of the trail on their own. They had been hiking since about 3 p.m.
