Alexander & Baldwin Inc. said Tuesday it is working to reduce energy consumption at three of its commercial properties on Oahu.
A&B said Carbon Lighthouse, a San Francisco-based energy-efficiency company, will install energy-efficiency upgrades at Pearl Highlands Center, Kakaako Commerce Center and Manoa Marketplace.
Carbon Lighthouse is contracted to upgrade the properties’ lighting, heating and cooling systems. Some changes Carbon Lighthouse will make to the buildings include installing new digital time clocks and control wire that will schedule how the building’s air circulators service the food court and replacing current lighting with light-emitting diodes.
A&B said the upgrades are expected to result in a reduction of more than 9,700 tons of carbon, which will save more than 22,600 barrels of oil throughout the life of the different projects. Carbon Lighthouse said it guaranteed the savings for A&B for 10 years at the Kakaako Commerce Center and Pearl Highlands, and for 12 years at Manoa Marketplace.
A&B declined to provide details about its contract with Carbon Lighthouse.
A&B said it plans to apply energy-efficiency programs to more of its commercial properties. The next space it plans to upgrade is the Kahului Office Building on Maui.
