Honolulu is the third best place to visit in America for its urban areas and beaches, followed by Maui, according to a new report released Tuesday by U.S. News & World Report.

The annual rankings of the best vacation spots in the U.S. placed New York City at No. 1 and Philadelphia second best. Kauai and Hawaii island were ranked 11th and 12th, respectively.
Honolulu also ranked No. 13 in the world’s best vacation spots for its beaches and culturally significant destinations including Pearl Harbor and Iolani Palace. The city of Rome placed first among 30 destinations worldwide.
The Washington, D.C.-based digital news and information company ranked, in order, Honolulu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii island for the top four best beach locations in the United States. Honolulu was also ranked in the top 10 for affordable honeymoon and wedding venues and best shopping in America.
The ranking of more than 300 destinations is based on travelers’ opinions and expert and editor analysis for its sights, culture and food, nightlife, adventure and romance.
