Two early-season tournaments and a grueling stretch of road games highlight the University of Hawaii soccer team’s 17-game schedule, released Thursday.
UH faces Houston Baptist in an exhibition game Aug. 14 and Michele Nagamine opens her seventh season as head coach by leading the Rainbow Wahine into a matchup with Utah Valley on Aug. 18 in the Ohana Hotels by Outrigger Shootout at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex. UH also faces Fairfield on opening weekend.
UH plays its next seven matches on the road in three trips to the mainland. The Wahine face Idaho, Gonzaga and Idaho State on the first trip. After their alumnae game Sept. 10, they play at Arizona State and Grand Canyon. They’ll have an 11-day break before opening Big West play with a trip to UC Davis on Sept. 28 and Long Beach State on Oct. 1.
UH returns to WPSC for games against UC Irvine (Oct. 8), UC Santa Barbara (Oct. 12), Cal State Northridge (Oct. 15) and Cal Poly (Oct. 22) and close the regular season at Cal State Fullerton (Oct. 26) and UC Riverside (Oct. 29).
UH went 9-6-2 overall and 2-5-1 in Big West play last season.

University of Hawaii swimming and diving coach Dan Schemmel announced the additions of three Rainbow Wahine newcomers on Thursday.
UH signed Lauren (LJ) Fetzko of Colorado, Anna Kotonen of Finland and Kate Santilena, a graduate transfer from San Diego State.
Fetzko set the Colorado 3A state record in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:05.84. Kotonen won silver in the 400 IM at the Long Course Finnish National Championships last year. Santilena was an All-Mountain West Conference pick.
