The Department of Land and Natural Resources will host a public meeting to get input on what the community would like to see at four sites, including an area previously intended to be developed by Honey Bee USA as part of a failed public-private partnership.
The meeting will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCoy Pavilion, 1201 Ala Moana Blvd.
DLNR’s Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation has hired consultant DTL Hawaii to conduct public outreach to determine the future of the current Ala Wai harbormaster’s office and the adjacent parking lot, the old fuel dock, the triangle parking lot and the former haul-out area.
DLNR hopes by year’s end to issue a request for proposals to develop these sites in the state’s largest harbor, which is home to the Hawaii Yacht Club, Waikiki Yacht and Royal Hawaiian Ocean Racing Club. There are 752 berths in the harbor, and 901 paid, public and permit parking stalls.
In August a U.S. Bankruptcy Court judge ended Honey Bee USA’s floundering plan to put a retail, boating and wedding venue construction project on prime state-owned waterfront land. The relationship between the state and Honey Bee USA went back to 2009.
Those who plan to attend the meeting should RSVP by email to lehua@dtlhawaii.com.
