Ship bearing war hero’s name to be commissioned

    A new ship named after Medal of Honor recipient John Finn will be commissioned July 15. The USS John Finn, an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, is dedicated to the man who used a .50-caliber machine gun to fire at attacking Japanese planes on Dec. 7, 1941. Finn is portrayed firing at Japanese planes in “The Warriors of Kaneohe,” by Jim Laurier.

A new Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer that honors a Dec. 7, 1941, defender and Medal of Honor recipient will be commissioned at 10 a.m. July 15 at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam’s Kilo Pier, the Navy said. Read more
