The wine lists of 35 Hawaii restaurants have been given a nod by Wine Spectator magazine in its 2017 Restaurant Awards — 15 on Oahu, 17 on Maui, two on Hawaii island and one on Kauai.
The magazine gives out three tiers of awards: Award of Excellence, Best of Award of Excellence and Grand Award.
Four Oahu restaurants and five on Maui were Best of Award of Excellence winners: Il Lupino Trattoria and Wine Bar, La Mer, Noe and Wolfgang’s Steakhouse by Wolfgang Zwiener on Oahu; and Lahaina Grill, Longhi’s Lahaina, Longhi’s Wailea, Merriman’s Kapalua and Nick’s Fishmarket on Maui.
The remaining restaurants were given the Award of Excellence: Alan Wong’s Honolulu, BLT Market, BLT Steak, Beachhouse at the Moana, Chart House Waikiki, Fleetwood’s on Front St., Fresco Italian Restaurant, Gannon’s A Pacific View Restaurant, Gerard’s, Hali‘imaile General Store, Honu Seafood & Pizza, Jackie Rey’s Ohana Grill, Ko, Mala Ocean Tavern, Mariposa, Merriman’s Fish House, Merriman’s Restaurant Waimea, Morimoto Maui, Morton’s the Steakhouse, Pacific’O, Pulehu an Italian Grill, Roy’s Ko Olina, Sarento’s on the Beach, Son’z Steakhouse, Vino and d.k Steak House.
The magazine began its wine list awards in 1981 with 13 Grand Award winners selected from among 500 candidates. Today more than 3,500 winners have been selected from some 70 countries and all 50 states.
