The Counter Custom Burgers took its inspiration from south of the border to come up with quatro midsummer specials featuring tastes of Mexico.
Tater tots now form the base for Na-Cho Mama’s Tots ($10) drizzled with cheddar cheese, a sprinkling of tomatoes, corn and black salsa, and crowned with a ring of sliced jalapenos.
El Asada burgers ($18) are topped with a deep-fried tomatillo and a liberal amount of sliced jalapenos. Feel free to remove some if they prove too hot to handle. And those who usually steer clear of salads will find it easy to polish off the Senor Diablo Ensalada ($19) of lettuce and pepperoncinis topped with sliced skirt steak.
For dessert, vanilla ice cream and cinnamon churro shakes ($8) may be the Mexican counterpart to our Oreo-and-milk combo. Dip and enjoy.
The Counter is near the Macy’s end of Kahala Mall.
