The University of Hawaii men’s volleyball team received the AVCA Team Academic Award for 2017 on Monday.
The Rainbow Warriors, who received the national honor for the first time, were among 19 men’s teams honored.
The Chaminade and Hawaii Hilo volleyball teams also were recipients of the honor.
Hawaii senior Jennings Franciskovic, redshirt freshman Patrick Gasman, and sophomores Brett Rosenmeier, Dalton Solbrig and Stijn van Tilburg earned MPSF All-Academic honors.
“I’m more proud of this than anything our team has done on the court,” Hawaii coach Charlie Wade said in a school press release. “We strive for this every year and it may never happen again. It is really hard to achieve a 3.3 year cumulative team GPA.”
The Silverswords earned a 3.43 team grade-point average and Hawaii Hilo maintained a 3.39 GPA during the 2016-17 school year.
The award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale, or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
