Switch up your usual evening dog walk by joining the Hawaiian Humane Society’s sixth annual Makapuu Sunset Benefit Hike from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The $25 registration fee includes a commemorative Hawaiian Humane Society bandana plus light refreshments. Participants will also be able to purchase a “family paw-trait” at the event for an additional $5. Those who register before Friday will be entered to win a gift basket. Proceeds from the event will help support the nonprofit agency’s animal welfare programs.
The Makapuu Point trail is part of the Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline. The 2-mile round trip is considered moderately difficult as it traverses a path near the historic Makapuu Lighthouse, built in 1909. Comprehensive repairs and improvements were completed in 2015 to provide additional viewing areas, rest benches for hikers, interpretive signs and more.
