Oahu Baseball 13’s fell short against Tri-Valley, Calif., on the final day of the Babe Ruth 13U Pacific Southwest Regional on Saturday in Vernal, Utah.
In the first final, Jacob Ornelles drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning as Oahu prevailed 6-5. Ornelles also pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win, Justin Tsukada drove in two runs and Cody Kashimoto batted 3-for-4.
The result set up a winner-take-all final in the double-elimination tournament.
Tri-Valley won the second game 8-4. Oahu’s Cody Oshiro batted 2-for-3.
Oahu finished the tournament 4-2 with both losses coming to Tri-Valley.
Kashimoto, Ornelles and Tsukada were named to the all-tournament team. Tsukada received the tournament’s Sportsmanship Award.

Tri-Valley, Calif., beat Oahu 4-1 in the first final and 9-3 in the winner-take-all final. Aaron Tom and Kade Morihara each had two hits in the second game for Oahu (3-2 in the tournament).
Tom, Codi Hirano, Ben McConnell and Makana Murashige were named to the all-tournament team. Matt Nishimura earned the Sportsmanship Award.
Ewa Beach’s Curran suffers UFC loss
Ewa Beach’s Kailin Curran dropped to 1-5 in the UFC when she lost by unanimous decision to Aleksandra Albu in a preliminary bout at UFC 214 on Saturday in Anaheim, Calif.
All three judges scored the 115-pound bout 29-28 in favor of Albu, who had to be treated at a local hospital after the fight. Curran (4-5 overall) landed a head kick in the third round and ended the fight in top position on the mat, but couldn’t score the knockout or submission needed after losing the first two rounds.
Albu improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the UFC.
Dudoit will speak at Honolulu QB Club
Nate Dudoit, founder and executive director of Liahona Youth Empowerment, will be the featured speaker at Monday’s Honolulu Quarterback Club meeting at Maple Garden Restaurant.
Liahona Youth Empowerment promotes and educates special-needs and at-risk youth and young adults on a healthy lifestyle and to become active participants and role models in society, according to a press release.
The luncheon, which is $16, starts at 11:30 a.m. and the program at noon. The public is invited.
