The University of Hawaii is offering a three-game football mini-pack and a six-match women’s volleyball mini-pack.
The offer will run through Sunday at 11:59 p.m. The packages are available for purchase at HawaiiAthletics.com.
The football mini-pack starts at $60 and includes the home opener against Western Carolina on Sept. 2 and a choice of two of the remaining five home games.
The women’s volleyball mini-pack also starts at $60 and includes the home opener against Marquette on Aug. 25 along with five of the remaining 18 home matches.
Mini-packs are available in select sections at Aloha Stadium and the Stan Sheriff Center. Limited accessible seating also is available. For this limited-time offer, the department is waiving online fees.
Lenny wins Puerto Escondido Challenge
Hawaii’s Kai Lenny won the Puerto Escondido Challenge in 20- to 25-foot surf Monday in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Lenny scored a 23.53 in the six-man final round. Hawaii’s Billy Kemper placed fourth with an 8.50 and Trevor Carlson was sixth with a 2.46.
Fellow Hawaii surfers Makuakai Rothman and Nathan Florence were eliminated in the semifinals.
The contest featured 24 of the world’s best big wave surfers.
McGill wins heat at Huntington Beach
Hawaii’s Finn McGill won his first-round heat with a 15.57 at the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing on Monday in Huntington Beach, Calif.
Fellow Hawaii surfers Kiron Jabour (11.97) and Tanner Hendrickson (11.80) finished second in their heats, while Cody Young (9.27) and Mason Ho (4.33) placed fourth.
Hawaii’s Sebastian Zietz finished second with an 11.53 in the partially completed second round.
Koa Smith, Torrey Meister, Keanu Asing, Wyatt McHale, Dusty Payne and Billy Kemper will start off the second round.
Chaminade men’s soccer adds 3 players
The Chaminade men’s soccer team added three players for the upcoming season, coach Jayson Abe announced Monday.
Lyric De Leon, a defender who graduated from Kapolei High, is transferring after spending a redshirt season at Grand Canyon.
Twin brothers Jake Andrews, a midfielder, and Toby Andrews, a forward, are transferring from Madison Junior College (Wis.). They are from Cambridge, England.
HPU tennis receives academic honors
The Hawaii Pacific University men’s and women’s tennis teams received Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic awards on Monday.
The women’s team led all HPU teams with a 3.789 GPA for the 2016-17 academic year while the men were second with a 3.381 GPA.
To earn the All-Academic Team award, a team must record a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale, with all varsity letterwinners factored into the team GPA.
HPU women Nicole Hoynaski, Lara Meccico, Oceane Adam, Barbara Kijasova, Leticia dos Santos and Monica Green joined Shark men Filip Soban, Torben Otto, Jakub Hadrava and Adrian Elduque as ITA scholar-athletes.
Those earning ITA scholar-athlete status must be a varsity letterwinner with a 3.50 grade-point average for 2016-17 and be in residence at their institution for at least two semesters.
HPU names acrobatics and tumbling coach
Hawaii Pacific named Haley Garelick the new acrobatics and tumbling coach on Monday.
Garelick was an assistant for national runner-up Oregon last season.
She replaces Keenyn Won, who was named the coach at Oregon last month.
