Hawaii County police Tuesday charged a 49-year-old Mountain View man who was allegedly involved in a Puna shooting incident Sunday in which three men were injured.
Rodney Wilbur Sr. was charged with second-degree attempted murder and firearm charges, and is scheduled to make his initial court appearance today in District Court in South Hilo. Wilbur’s bail was set at $275,000.
At 6:21 p.m. Sunday, multiple gunshots were fired during a confrontation between two groups of people at the Isaac Hale Beach Park in Pohoiki in lower Puna. Three men injured during the gunfire were taken to Hilo Medical Center.
One of them, a 35-year-old Pahoa man, was later taken in critical condition to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. He remains in critical condition. The other two, Mountain View men ages 25 and 27, remain in stable condition.
Witnesses identified Wilbur as the shooter of the 35-year-old man. He was arrested shortly after leaving the scene.
Police on Monday arrested a 36-year-old Puna man on suspicion of first-degree assault.

Woman arrested over assault in Mililani
Police arrested a 47-year-old woman after she allegedly assaulted a 73-year-old woman in Mililani.
At about 3 p.m. Monday, police said, the suspect struck the victim with an unspecified dangerous instrument. The suspect and victim are acquaintances.
Police were called, and the suspect was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault.
Police said the victim refused treatment.
