Big Island police have arrested a 21-year-old Hilo man after he allegedly stole a county bus over the weekend.
Shortly after 1:45 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a hit-and-run on Railroad Avenue in Hilo involving the bus, which was reportedly stolen from the county’s Hilo baseyard that morning.
No injuries were reported.
Police spotted the bus on Route 130 that same day and stopped it near the intersection of Kaohuwalu Street in Pahoa. Officers arrested the 21-year-old man, who remains in custody.
Earlier, the bus sideswiped a car containing a woman and two children, knocking off the car’s side mirror.
Police said the bus sustained moderate damage. A damage estimate was not immediately available.

3 alleged drug dealers busted at Makena park
Maui police have arrested three men for allegedly dealing drugs at Makena State Beach Park.
In response to complaints, patrol officers as well as officers from the police department’s Plans & Training Section, Juvenile Crime Prevention Division and Crime Reduction Unit arrested the men Friday as part of an operation to crack down on illegal drug activity in the park.
Police arrested a 31-year-old Kahului man, 42-year-old Paia man and 50-year-old Makawao man on suspicion of promoting a detrimental drug in the second degree, promoting a controlled substance in a public park, promoting a detrimental drug in the third degree and prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia.
They were released pending further investigation.
