Police were looking for a 57-year-old man Friday in connection with an attempted-murder investigation in Salt Lake.
Police said the man threatened to kill a 58-year-old woman and then choked her until she passed out at about 9:55 p.m.
The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police could not find the man, but opened a second-degree attempted-murder investigation.
Fishing fatality was Honolulu resident
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office on Saturday identified the fisherman who died after being swept away by a wave as Matthew Mabida-Bridges of Honolulu.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine the exact cause of death.
Witnesses said Mabida-Bridges was fishing in shallow waters with a woman offshore of the Kahala Hotel & Resort at about 12:30 p.m. Friday when a large wave knocked them down.
Hotel staff paddled out, brought both back to shore and performed CPR on Mabida-Bridges.
Emergency Medical Services personnel transported Mabida-Bridges to a hospital where he died, police said. The woman, who was awake, was taken to an emergency room in serious condition.
Man pulled from Waikiki waters identified
A 42-year-old man who died after being found floating offshore of Waikiki last week was identified Saturday by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office as Chad Rogers.
The office said Rogers had no local address and his cause of death was pending.
Beachgoers found Rogers at about 6:15 p.m. Tuesday behind the Barefoot Beach Cafe at the Queen’s Surf Beach, Emergency Medical Services said. Police said Rogers was unresponsive and EMS personnel could not revive him. Rogers died at the scene. Police said there were no signs of foul play.
