Hawaii-raised singer Yvonne Elliman-Alexander, known for her role in “Jesus Christ Superstar” and her hit song “If I Can’t Have You,” has been charged with illegal drug possession on Guam, according to the Pacific Daily News.
Elliman-Alexander, 65, and her husband Allen Alexander, 66, were arrested after Guam customs dogs detected suspected methamphetamine and marijuana in their belongings Tuesday.
Both, who were to perform at a benefit concert at a school, were released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond after appearing in Superior Court on Wednesday, the newspaper said.
Elliman-Alexander performed “If I Can’t Have You” on the Bee Gees’ Grammy award-winning Album of the Year for 1978, “Saturday Night Fever.”
Elliman-Alexander, a Roosevelt High School graduate, appeared in the Broadway musical “Jesus Christ Superstar” when it opened in 1971, performing as Mary Magdalene and singing the song, “I Don’t Know How to Love Him.”
