Paperwork snags $2.4 million in state land preservation funding

    The nonprofit Hawaiian Islands Land Trust plans to acquire a conservation easement on a 6-acre taro farm in Hana, Maui, shown here. The trust was awarded $210,000 from the Legacy Land Conservation Program in May to help with the $516,617 easement purchase, but the award money is delayed because of a funding problem with the program.

A state program that has preserved more than 30,000 acres of private land in Hawaii for public benefit over a decade might not preserve much this year because of a paperwork mishap that the Legislature declined to correct in April. Read more
