Torrential rain on Kauai from 1950 storm set record

  • Hurricane Hiki was the first operationally verified tropical cyclone to affect the Hawaiian Islands. Pictured is an illustration of the storm north of Kauai. Reconnaissance flights found that the storm’s eye was filled with clouds and approximately 20 miles wide (CPHC, 2013).
