Vote shows support is strong for rail bill

  • The state Senate held a roll-call vote Tuesday that was 17-7 in favor of a measure to rescue the city’s rail project. A final Senate vote will take place today. Above, Mayor Kirk Caldwell, right, and his chief of staff, Gary Kurokawa, center, sat above in the gallery.


    Sen. Josh Green voted no on the rail measure Tuesday and indicated he would vote no again today. “Every single individual I’ve spoken to from the Big Island so far wants me to vote no and feels this vote is unfair,” Green said.


    Sens. Maile Shimabukuro and Will Espero spoke before leaving the Senate chamber Tuesday.
