A tourist from California died while snorkeling Friday morning off Kaumakani, Kauai, police said.
He was identified as Harold Edwards, 76.
The man was found unresponsive about 40 yards offshore. Crew members from a Na Pali boat tour brought him back aboard the boat and immediately began CPR until medics arrived.
He was then taken to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy is pending, but foul play is not suspected, police said.
Girl, 17, dies after being hit by car in Maili
A 17-year-old Waianae girl died Friday evening after being struck by a vehicle on Farrington Highway in Maili.
According to police, the girl was struck by a car operated by a 47-year-old man that was heading east on the highway near Maipela Street around 9:30 p.m.
The girl was taken in critical condition to a local trauma center where she later died.
This is the 30th traffic-related fatality on Oahu this year compared to 39 at the same time last year.
