The Waikiki Shell now bears Moffatt’s name

It’s fitting that the late Tom Moffatt — radio disc jockey, concert promoter and one of the most influential figures in the Hawaii entertainment industry, bringing the likes of Elvis Presley, the Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson to far-flung Honolulu — now has a permanent place under the stars at his favorite venue.

A City Council resolution approved on Wednesday has renamed the Waikiki Shell in Kapiolani Park as the Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell. Moffatt, whose career here spanned six decades, died Dec. 12 at age 85.
