Hawaiian Airlines said Friday it will waive reservation change fees for customers traveling between Honolulu and Japan from today through Monday due to Typhoon Talim.
The change fee waiver applies to affected customers subject to the following conditions:
>> Ticket was issued on or before Thursday.
>> Affected flight(s) is/are originally scheduled for travel between today and Monday.
>> Change must be re-booked and ticketed for new flights on or before Sept. 23.
For changes made to new flights on or before Sept. 23, any resulting difference in fare(s) will be waived provided the change is made to the same class of service and there is no change in origin and destination.
Customers needing assistance should call Hawaiian Airlines’ reservations desk toll-free at 800-367-5320 (U.S.) and (03) 6435-1179 (Japan). Travelers are also advised to continue to monitor Hawaiian Airlines’ website at HawaiianAirlines.com for updates on the status of flights this week.
Hawaii has third-lowest jobless rate in U.S.
Hawaii held its position with the third-lowest unemployment rate in the country at 2.6 percent.
North Dakota remained first at 2.3 percent and Colorado second at 2.4 percent in August, according to data released Friday by the U.S. Department of Labor. Hawaii’s jobless rate was released a day earlier by the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations.
New Hampshire (2.7 percent), Nebraska (2.8 percent) and Idaho (2.9 percent) are the only other states with jobless rates under 3 percent.
Long-term mortgage rates remain at 2017 low
WASHINGTON >> Long-term U.S. mortgage rates were unchanged this week, leaving the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate at the lowest level this year.
Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac says the 30-year fixed mortgage rate was 3.78 percent. While the same as the previous week, that is down sharply from this year’s peak of 4.3 percent, reached in March. It remains slightly above last year’s average of 3.65 percent.
The 15-year mortgage stayed at 3.08 percent. Those loans are frequently used by homeowners refinancing their mortgages.

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii has named Cynthia Moore director of Member and Marketing Communications. Moore previously served as a market manager for vision insurance provider VSP Global as well as a program director for the California Association of Hospitals & Health Systems.
Alexander & Baldwin has named Claire Goldberg associate general counsel. She will focus on real estate matters in the company as well as report to Nelson Chun, senior vice president and chief legal officer. Goldberg was previously a partner in the real estate practice Goodsill Anderson Quinn & Stifel.
Kamehameha Schools has announced that Kevin Greenwell is the new senior director of Portfolio Strategy & Finance in its Commercial Real Estate Division. Greenwell was previously principal for KMG Advisory and worked for Deloitte & Touche in the San Francisco office of its Financial Advisory Services practice.
Parker Ranch Foundation Trust has named Michael K. Fujimoto a trustee. Fujimoto has a long record of service to the community, including serving as chief executive officer of HPM Building Supply. Fujimoto also has served on the boards of Hawaii Preparatory Academy, North Hawaii Community Hospital and Parker Ranch Inc.
