Luxury candy brand Sugarfina and Sanrio have partnered to create Sanrio Loves Sugarfina, a kawaii collection of Candy Bento Boxes ($20 to $30) and Candy Cubes ($8) inspired by Hello Kitty and her Sanrio friends.
Candies have been matched to the style and personalities of the characters. Celebrating Hello Kitty are a strawberry-flavored gummy in the shape of her signature bow and one in the shape of her face and flavored like her favorite food, her mama’s apple pie. Both are included in a limited-edition, bow-shaped Candy Bento Box.
Other creations include Mischievous Chocolate Pops — milk chocolate filled with popping candy — associated with Badtz-Maru, Keroppi Donut Pond Jelly Beans, Gudetama Lazy Gummy Eggs and My Melody Sweet Chocolate Pearls.
Find the candy at Sugarfina stores and Neiman Marcus. Neiman Marcus is hosting a launch event from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday on Level One, with refreshments, a candy bar and an appearance by Hello Kitty.
EAT THE STREET, THAI STYLE
The sizzling sounds of an Asian street market come to the Kahala Hotel & Resort on Sept. 28.
Kasem “Pop” Saengsawang and Ling Chatterjee are bringing some of the Thai street fare that has won the attention of Michelin restaurant-guide critics, who named their Farmhouse Kitchen one of San Francisco’s best inexpensive restaurants this year and last.
The one-night Asian Street Food event takes place 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Plumeria Beach House.
The visiting chefs will present a made-to-order papaya salad station. The Kahala’s chefs will present satays, dim sum and curries.
Tickets are $65, $35 for ages 6 to 12. To reserve, call 739-8760.
In conjunction with the visit, the Plumeria Beach House will also feature a $25 Farmhouse Kitchen sampler of chicken and beef satay, larb and mieng kham, a traditional wrapped leaf snack, from Sept. 29 through Oct. 14.
