The already tangled, serious allegations involving former Police Chief Louis Kealoha and his city deputy prosecutor wife, Katherine Kealoha, continues spinning more web.
The latest development occurred Wednesday at the Honolulu Police Commission, with police Cpl. Denny Santiago alleging rampant corruption within HPD, as well as retaliation against him and another officer for testifying in the ongoing federal investigation on the Kealohas. The complex case involves a mailbox theft and questionable use of officers.
Santiago, 2011 recipient of HPD’s Warrior Silver Medal of Valor, tells a disturbing tale of misdeeds and cover-ups by HPD higher-ups.
It now falls to the police commission to sort through and follow up on the claims — and to ensure that whistleblowers aren’t retaliated against for trying to do right by HPD.
