Real a Gastropub joins Kakaako’s growing craft liquor scene, opening in the Keauhou Lane complex early next year, with an in-house brewery.
The gastropub, long a fixture at Ward Farmers Market, closes next week as the market makes way for redevelopment. The Kakaako move gives owner Troy Terorotua a 3,000-foot space to build his own brewpub, his business partner, Lisa A. Kim, said Friday.
Keauhou Lane, at the corner of Keawe and Pohukaina streets and a block from Salt at Kakaako, is a mixed residential complex that is the site of a soon-to-open Down to Earth natural-food store.
The new Real will carry the same name, plus the name of the brewery, which is yet to be determined, Kim said. It will be open daily for lunch and dinner, an expansion over Real’s dinner-only hours. The chef will be Lee Warnick, now at the helm of Terorotua’s other restaurant, Brew’d Craft Pub on Waialae Avenue.
Kim said a lease with Oregon-based developer Gerding Edlen was signed Wednesday.
With Real, the Kakaako area will have four beer-centric businesses: three brewpubs and Village Bottle Shop and Tasting Room.
Kim said Real’s distinction is that it will serve not only its own brews, but will maintain its large international selection of beers, “so our guests can get a locally brewed beer or their other favorites on tap.”
Real’s Ward location closes Sept. 30.
