Freshman outside hitter Shaney Lipscomb is no longer on the Hawaii volleyball team.
On Monday, Rainbow Wahine coach Robyn Ah Mow-Santos said that the 6-foot-1 San Diego native has “voluntarily left the program” but did not elaborate, citing privacy issues. Although not officially redshirting, Lipscomb had not played in any of Hawaii’s 13 matches.
The Wahine (8-5, 2-0 Big West) leave Wednesday for their first road trip of the season. They play at Cal State Fullerton (4-11, 0-3) on Friday and UC Riverside (8-7, 0-3) on Saturday.
Mamiya, Jabour claim heats in Philippines
Hawaii’s Barron Mamiya and Kiron Jabour won their round-of-32 heats at the Siargao Cloud 9 Surfing Cup on Monday in Siargao, Philippines.
Fellow local surfers Love Hodel and Kaito Kino also advanced by finishing second in their respective four-man heats at the Men’s QS 3,000 event.
Kaimana Jaquias, also of Hawaii, has yet to surf in his round-of-64 heat.
UH sailors win 2 races, place fifth
The Hawaii sailing team opened its season by placing fifth at the PCCSC Match Race Championship, which concluded Sunday in Redwood City, Calif.
The Rainbows won two of 10 races over two days at the double round-robin event. Their head-to-head wins came over California and runner-up Cal Maritime.
