Prosecutors on Tuesday charged a 40-year-old Kailua man who allegedly tried to kill a 42-year-old woman after allegedly drowning her dog in his bathtub.
Harry Martin Lewis was charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree cruelty to animals.
His bail was set at $250,000.
Sometime between 8:15 and 9:15 p.m. Sunday, Lewis drowned the woman’s dog in a bathtub, police said. An argument ensued between the suspect and the woman, described by police as the suspect’s “intimate partner.”
Police said he attempted to drown her in the bathtub and threatened several witnesses who live in the same residence.
Officers arrested Lewis that night on suspicion of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree cruelty to animals and first-degree terroristic threatening.

Wildfire causes Kauai park, trail to close
Haena State Park on Kauai’s North Shore and the popular Kalalau Trail in Na Pali Coast State Wilderness Park were closed Tuesday afternoon due to a wildfire, according to state officials.
Fire supervisors from the state Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry and Wildlife said the fire, first reported early Tuesday morning, was burning mostly on a steep ridge between the Haena State Park boundary and Limahuli Valley.
Two helicopters were making water drops on the flames, and two engines and firefighters from DOFAW were on the scene. Two DOFAW staff were on the trail to warn hikers to stay put.
The cause of the fire remained unknown.
