A 71-year-old woman died after she was found unresponsive on Tuesday in waters off Kualoa Regional Park.
Susan H. Lee of Kaaawa was identified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office as the victim. An autopsy is expected to be performed. Police said there were no signs of foul play.
Police said Lee became unresponsive while swimming at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Secret Island beach. Witnesses pulled her to shore. She was pronounced dead after Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived.
House fire put out in Waipio
Honolulu firefighters doused a fire at a three-story duplex home in Waipio on Wednesday afternoon.
A fire department spokesman said heavy smoke was coming from a second-story window of the Lumipolu Street home when nine fire companies with 31 firefighters arrived just before 1 p.m.
The fire was brought under control nine minutes later. No one was inside the home at the time of the fire, the fire department said. The fire was extinguished by 1:26 p.m. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
H-1 closures in Kapolei today-Friday
A portion of the westbound H-1 freeway in the Kapolei area will be closed from 10 p.m. today to 5 a.m. Friday, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The closure between the Makakilo Drive and Kalaeloa Boulevard overpasses will allow work on the Kapolei Interchange Complex, Phase 2, project, DOT officials said.
Westbound motorists on H-1 will be directed to Makakilo Drive via the Makakilo/Kapolei/Kalaeloa off-ramp, Exit 2, and can continue on Farrington Highway/Kamokila Boulevard, Wakea Street, and the Farrington Highway on-ramp to return to the westbound freeway, they said.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, the left, eastbound lane of H-1 freeway between Laaloa Street and the Farrington Highway overpass will also be closed.
