In anticipation of a large public turnout to discuss the update of the General Plan, the Wednesday meeting of the Kauai County Council will be held at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall.
“We recognize that it is important for members of the public to be able to make their voice heard,” said Council chair Mel Rapozo in a statement released Friday. “Moving the Council Meeting to a larger facility will help to ensure that the public will have adequate space to view the proceedings as well as testify.”
The previous meeting, Sept. 6, which included an initial reading of the bill, drew a standing-room-only crowd with more than 40 people offering testimony.
Those who wish to present their comments may do so at the hearing. Written testimony may be submitted to the Office of the County Clerk, Council Services Division, by mail, fax, or via email to counciltestimony@kauai.gov. Copies of the proposed bill and all other agenda items are available at the Office of the County Clerk and posted on the county website.
Those wanting to testify should submit written testimony in advance or prepare at least 10 copies to be distributed to Council members and Council staff at the hearing. The meeting will be televised on Hoike Channel 53 and will be available for archived viewing on kauai.gov.
Projects close state park road on Big Island
The entry road to the Mahaiula section of Kekaha State Park in North Kona will be closed on weekdays beginning Monday as part of a series of improvement projects.
The closure is expected to last until Nov. 3.
Construction will include pothole repairs, patching of existing paved areas, placement of new compacted gravel in existing unpaved areas, placement of two speed humps, grading of shoulder areas of the entry road for safe access, and additional parking, signs and security barriers, the state Parks Division said. Isemoto Contracting Co. Inc. is doing the work for $409,000.
