LONDON >> British authorities are scrambling to bring home 110,000 travelers after Monarch Airlines collapsed Monday, canceling all flights by what had been Britain’s fifth biggest carrier with 2,100 employees.
The Civil Aviation Authority said it has leased 30 aircraft to transport Monarch customers scattered around holiday destinations ranging from Turkey to Spain and Sweden. Flights will be provided at no additional cost to passengers. Some 860,000 customers in all are affected, with 750,000 with future bookings.
GM promising 2 new EVs within 2 years
DETROIT >> Even though gasoline-powered SUVs are what people are buying now, General Motors is betting that electric vehicles will be all the rage in the not-too-distant future.
The Detroit automaker said Monday it is promising two new EVs loosely based on the Chevrolet Bolt in the next 1-1/2 years and more than 20 electric or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles by 2023. The company sees its entire model lineup running on electricity in the future, whether the source is a big battery or a tank full of hydrogen.

Kaiser Permanente Hawaii has named Donna LoCurto its new director of perioperative services. Her responsibilities include accountability for staffing, planning, directing and coordinating perioperative services related to evaluation, operating rooms and outpatient admissions. LoCurto was a former administrative director for surgical and interventional systems at Seton Medical Center in Daly City, Calif.
