Utah senior Adora Anae, who was named the Pac-12 offensive player of the week on Monday, is the Utes’ all-time career kills record holder.
The 2014 Kahuku alumna, an AVCA All-America second-team selection as a junior, recorded her 1,621st kill in the first set of Sunday’s four-set win over Washington State to pass Kim Turner‘s record of 1,620. Anae has 1,635 kills after finishing with 20 against the Cougars.
Utah started the week with a five-set win over No. 9 Washington on Friday. Anae had 25 kills and 11 digs against the Huskies.
She added 16 digs and three aces against the Cougars.
Anae has won three Pac-12 weekly honors in her career.
The Utes are now 14-3 overall and 5-1 in the Pac-12, trailing only league-leading Stanford (6-0). Utah jumped four spots to No. 13 in the latest AVCA Top 25.
Anae ranks fourth in the Pac-12, averaging 4.37 kills per set. Teammate Bailey Choy, a 2016 ‘Iolani graduate, is eighth in the Pac-12, averaging 9.71 assists per set.
Milton’s Knights up to No. 22 in poll
Central Florida, with Mililani alum McKenzie Milton at quarterback, rose three spots this week to No. 22 in the latest Associated Press Top 25.
Milton finished 16-for-19 for a career-high 374 yards and five touchdowns in a 51-23 win over Cincinnati on Saturday.
The Knights improved to 4-0 for the first time ever playing in the FBS.
Milton threw touchdown passes of 54 and 79 yards in UCF’s first five offensive plays from scrimmage against the Bearcats.
Milton completed eight of his first 10 pass attempts to eight different receivers.
“I’ve been around football awhile and I don’t remember a cleaner game on offense,” head coach Scott Frost told reporters after the game. “They executed so well. We had such a good week of preparation and I knew they were ready to play, but the performance they put out tonight on offense was special.”
The Knights host East Carolina on Saturday at 1 p.m. Hawaii time. It will be shown on the CBS Sports Network.
Next week, UCF plays at No. 25 Navy.
Kiner-Falefa honored
UNLV sophomore Leka Kiner-Falefa was named the Mountain West Conference defensive player of the week on Monday.
Kiner-Falefa, a 2016 Mid-Pacific graduate, combined for 54 digs in five-set victories over San Jose State and Nevada last week.
The 5-foot-8 libero averaged 5.40 digs per set and added nine assists and an ace in the two victories.
“Leka has played some outstanding matches this season, but this weekend we really saw her come through,” UNLV coach Cindy Fredrick said in a press release. “It doesn’t matter what sport; defense is so key to winning. Leka provided us with solid defense against San Jose State and Nevada-Reno, which was key to our wins.”
UNLV plays its next four matches at home, beginning with Fresno State on Thursday.
