Warhol prints from ‘80s on exhibit in Honolulu

Prints by Andy Warhol (1928-1987), an evocative, provocative pop art figure who influenced illustration, painting, agitprop and pop culture in the Modern and Contemporary eras, are featured in the Ravizza Brownfield Gallery’s final show of 2017, “Late Dreams and Early Thoughts.”

The exhibit features Warhol’s silkscreen prints of the 1980s, drawn from the inventory of Ravizza Brownfield Gallery’s European sister gallery, Galeria Allegra Ravizza.

Among the prints included is Warhol’s “Fish,” an 8-by-10-inch 1983 work from the artist’s Toy Series, of synthetic polymer and silkscreen ink on canvas.

The exhibit also features “Shoes” from 1980, one of many works by Warhol that engage with Americans’ consumerist obsessions.

The opening reception for “Late Dreams and Early Thoughts” is 6 to 8 p.m. today. “Imagine the transformation of a grocery or department store,” the gallery urges. “Come with your best wig or Factory impersonations.”
