The Japanese New Year tradition of osechi ryori calls for the assembly of numerous dishes meant to bring good fortune. But doing it right involves a whole lot of kitchen labor.
For those who’d rather spend cash than time to assure their 2018 starts off right, Sakura Terrace offers elaborate osechi boxes, each one meant to serve four while doubling as a classy New Year’s centerpiece.
Included will be steamed abalone, grilled lobster and king crab, candied sardines, roast duck, nishime, pickled octopus and lotus root, chicken loaf and a variety of sweets. Some of the items will be imported from Tokyo’s Tsukiji Market.
Supply is limited to 100; last year’s sold out quickly.
The price for those ordered through Tuesday is $288; through Nov. 27, $304; through Dec. 15, $320. Pickup will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Dec. 31. Delivery is available in Honolulu for an additional fee.
Sakura Terrace is at 1240 S. King St. Call 591-1181.
