The University of Hawaii women’s basketball team was selected fourth in the Big West preseason media and coaches polls announced Wednesday morning.
UH senior Sarah Toeaina was named to the six-player preseason all-conference team in both polls. Toeaina was a first-team BWC player in 2016-17 after averaging 13.5 points per game for sixth-place UH (12-18, 7-9 BWC).
Defending regular-season champion UC Davis was picked to win in the media poll with Cal State Northridge second. The Aggies and Matadors were swapped in the coaches poll. UC Santa Barbara was third in both polls.
The Rainbow Wahine have their Green and White intrasquad scrimmage at 7 p.m. Friday at the Stan Sheriff Center and host Hawaii Hilo in an exhibition next Wednesday. They open the season Nov. 10 at Portland.

Hawaii Pacific women picked fourth
The Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team was picked fourth out of 14 teams in the PacWest preseason women’s basketball poll released on Wednesday.
Hawaii Hilo was in a tie for tenth with Dixie State, while Chaminade was picked 13th. Hawaii Pacific guard Breanna Mackenzie was selected to the seven-member preseason all-conference team.
Hawaii Pacific women rout Dominican
The Hawaii Pacific women’s soccer team rallied from an early deficit to defeat Dominican (Calif.) 4-1 on Wednesday at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Park.
The Penguins (5-8-2, 3-6-1 PacWest) led 1-0 just 3 minutes in on Mariah Meza’s goal. The Sharks (7-8-1, 3-7-1) evened the contest at halftime and broke away in the second half. Ebony Madrid, Hi’ilani Thomas, Nina Gonzales and Sara Romo scored for HPU.
>> On the men’s side, HPU and Dominican played to a 1-1 draw. Josch Cuerten scored in the second minute for the Sharks (4-8-3, 2-7-2 PacWest), while Diego Vasquez scored for the Penguins (4-8-3, 2-7-2) in the 60th minute.
