The Hawaii Hilo men’s golf team finished second — one stroke behind Wilmington — at the Dennis Rose Invitational on Saturday at Waikoloa Beach Course.
The Vulcans, who shot a 277 in the final round, finished at 16-over-par 856. Hawaii Pacific was sixth at 890 and Chaminade placed eighth and last at 954.
Hilo’s Jared Kinoshita finished fourth at 3-over 213. The Sharks’ top golfer was Minsu Lee (tied eighth, 215), while the Silverswords’ top finisher was Patrick Tran (21st, 221).
Dixie State’s Jayce Frampton took medalist honors with a 208.
Hawaii Hilo men record first victory
Jesus Ortega scored twice and Bryan Reynoso added a goal as the Hawaii Hilo men’s soccer team recorded its first victory of the season with a 3-0 victory over Dominican on Saturday at Paiea Stadium.
Ortega scored at 23:28 and 35:53, and Reynoso found the back of the net at 30:32 for the Vulcans (1-13, 1-10 PacWest). Cassidy Dixon recorded seven saves.
The Penguins fell to 4-9-2, 1-8-2.

HPU women topple Chaminade
Ebony Madrid had a goal and an assist as the Hawaii Pacific women’s soccer team beat Chaminade 3-1 on Saturday at Saint Louis School field.
Hiilani Thomas scored at 25:50, Madrid added one at 48:10 and Josefine VonDerBurg scored off Madrid’s assist at 75:42 for the Sharks (8-8-1, 4-7-1 PacWest).
Bree Chang scored at 85:46 for the Silverswords (3-10-1, 2-5-1).

Keira Dagy scored at 66:40 and Michelle Li added a goal at 76:49 for the Penguins (6-8-2, 4-6-1 PacWest).

UH swimming and diving post victories
The University of Hawaii men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams opened the season Saturday with double-dual-meet victories over CSU Bakersfield and Idaho in Bakersfield, Calif.
The Rainbow Warriors won 13 of 16 events, while the Rainbow Wahine claimed 11 of 16.
On the men’s side, Reed Wynn (50 and 100 freestyle), Kane Follows (100 and 200 backstroke), Olli Kokko (100 and 200 breaststroke), Metin Aydin (100 and 200 butterfly) and Lucas Cooperman (1- and 3-meter diving) won multiple events.
Hawaii’s Phoebe Hines won the women’s 200 and 500 freestyle.
UH cross country team finishes last
The University of Hawaii cross country team finished ninth and last at the Big West Championships on Saturday in Riverside, Calif.
The Rainbow Wahine finished with 259 points. UC Santa Barbara won with 45.
Hawaii’s top finisher was Danielle Girard, who finished the 6K course in 22:31.5 to place 43rd.
UCSB’s Jenna Hinkle won in 20:17.1.
Hawaii Pacific swept by Concordia
Perla Escobar recorded five kills, but the Hawaii Pacific volleyball team lost to Concordia 25-15, 25-21, 25-14 on Saturday at St. Andrew’s Priory Gym.
The Sharks, who hit .026, dropped to 7-14, 5-8 PacWest.
Cindy Tran had 10 kills for the Eagles (13-8, 9-5).
