Emily Maglio’s final appearances in the Stan Sheriff Center last week did not go unnoticed across the Pacific.
On Monday, the Hawaii senior middle was named the Big West women’s volleyball player of the week, the first such honor of her career. Maglio averaged 5.33 kills and 1.33 blocks per set, hitting a combined .560, in sweeps of Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State.
The 6-foot-3 Canadian national had match highs of 13 kills and five blocks, hitting .478, against the Matadors and 19 kills, hitting .630, with three blocks against the 49ers. Maglio, an All-American on the Hawaii beach team, has led the Wahine (16-7, 12-2 Big West) in blocks 22 times and in kills 12 times, with 20 double-digit kill performances.
She also recorded at least one block in 84 consecutive matches and is tied for No. 8 nationally in block average (1.51). She previously had earned four weekly conference honors as the top defensive player.
Also on Monday, Hawaii remained at 49 in the Ratings Percentage Index, the computer-generated ranking system used by the NCAA to select and seed teams for the postseason tournament. The Wahine are on a bye this week and finish the regular season at UC Davis on Nov. 16 and at UC Irvine on Nov. 18.
Long lifts Chaminade volleyball to sweep
Kira Long had 17 kills as the Chaminade volleyball team beat Fresno Pacific 25-21, 25-16, 25-21 on Monday in Fresno, Calif.
Skyler Curry recorded 19 assists and Danielle Wiley added 15 for the Silverswords (12-11, 7-8 PacWest).
Malerie Crenshaw finished with 10 kills for the Sunbirds (10-15, 8-8).

HPU’s Walin honored by PacWest
Hawaii Pacific midfielder Alissa Lei Walin was named the PacWest women’s soccer freshman of the week, the conference announced Monday.
Walin, a Seabury Hall graduate, scored in the 86th minute of the Sharks’ 1-1 tie against visiting Fresno Pacific on Saturday in the season finale for both teams. It was her only goal of the season.
