Murphy’s Bar & Grill celebrates its 30th anniversary Thursday with an act of sharing, a “Turkey Tailgate” donation drive.
Beginning at 8 a.m. drop off a frozen turkey at Murphy’s — a giant costumed turkey will take your donation in front of the restaurant at Merchant Street and Nuuanu Avenue (imagine the selfie possibilities).
In exchange you’ll be given a $5 voucher for food and drink at a block party that owner Don Murphy is throwing that night on Merchant Street.
The turkeys will go to the Hawaii Foodbank, which also will be collecting non-perishable food items and cash donations.
The block party runs from 6 to 9 p.m.
Murphy hopes to collect 300 turkeys at this fourth annual “Turkey Tailgate.”
The Salvation Army Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division lets you give to the needy in these easy ways:
>> At the supermarket: Through Dec. 31 at all Foodland and Sack N Save stores, make a donation at checkout through Foodland’s “Share a Holiday Feast” program. The donations will go toward gift certificates for families in need.
>> At the bakery: Through Saturday at Anna Miller’s and Zippy’s locations, buy a pumpkin pie that will be set aside for the Salvation Army’s annual Thanksgiving Meal at Blaisdell Center. Each year this event feeds about 2,000 people who might otherwise have no holiday meal.
