Hawaiian Airlines was the runaway winner for punctuality among U.S. airlines in September.
The state’s largest carrier pulled up to the blocks within 15 minutes of its scheduled arrival time on 94 percent of its flights to easily outdistance No. 2 Delta Air Lines, which was punctual on 88.7 percent of its flights, according to data released Thursday by the U.S. Department of Transportation. The national average for the 12 reporting carriers was 83.6 percent.
Hawaiian has led all U.S. carriers in punctuality for the last 13 years in a row starting in 2004.
The airline also was first in September for fewest flight cancellations with 0.4 percent, or a total of 23, out of 6,571 scheduled flights.
In other categories, Hawaiian ranked seventh for fewest consumer complaints with 1.67 per 100,000 passengers and was 10th for fewest mishandled baggage reports with 2.38 per 1,000 passengers.
The DOT, which releases quarterly the data for passengers who are involuntarily denied boarding, listed Hawaiian as having the fifth fewest with 0.05 per 10,000 passengers for the July-September period. Hawaiian had 15 passengers involuntarily denied boarding out of more than 2.9 million passengers.
