A 56-year-old visitor from Portland, Ore., died Thursday after experiencing a medical emergency while snorkeling in Ahihi Bay in Makena.
The man was snorkeling with a friend shortly before 1 p.m. when he began to feel ill, according to a Maui Fire Department report. He and the other man swam back to shore, but he fell unconscious and lost his pulse while the friend left to get help.
Lifeguards and fire personnel performed CPR but were unable to revive the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Suspect nabbed in Waikiki robbery attempt
Police arrested a 41-year-old man after he allegedly robbed an 18-year-old man in Waikiki.
At about 3:55 p.m. Thursday, police said, the suspect used force against the victim when he attempted to flee with the victim’s property.
Police were called, and the suspect was arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
Victim is badly hurt in Haleiwa assault
Emergency Medical Services said a man assaulted another man Thursday night near the Haleiwa 7-Eleven, leaving the victim in critical condition.
The victim is about 30 years old.
Police at the Wahiawa station and the detectives division had no details on the assault, which occurred at 66-031 Kamehameha Highway.
