University of Hawaii sophomore Phoebe Hines broke a school record in the women’s 1,650 freestyle, finishing second to Stanford sophomore and Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky at the Texas A&M Art Adamson Invitational on Saturday in College Station, Texas. The Rainbow Wahine finished fifth as Hines recorded a 15:57.76, the first time a UH swimmer broke 16 minutes in the event. Ledecky set a record with a 15:03.31, 15 seconds faster than the men’s 1,650 free winner.
UH senior Madison Sthamann won the women’s platform diving with a score of 290.30, 40 points higher than her closest competitor. Franziska Weidner finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke, breaking the UH record by three seconds, with a time of 2:08.61.
The UH men’s squad also finished fifth in the competition, led by Metin Aydin’s second-place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:41.63. Johan Sandell and Lucas Cooperman placed third and seventh in the men’s platform diving competition, notching NCAA Zone qualifying scores.
SandBows pairs advance at Queen’s
The pairs of Ari Homayun- Lea Monkhouse and Hannah Zalopany-Pani Napoleon advanced to today’s 3 p.m. final of the University of Hawaii beach volleyball intrasquad tournament at Queen’s Beach.
Homayun, a junior, and freshman Monkhouse swept sophomore Amy Ozee and freshman Presley Forbes in Saturday’s first semifinal 21-18, 21-11. Zalopany, a senior, and freshman Napoleon rallied past senior Ka’iwi Schucht and freshman Cali Bunn 13-21, 21-19, 15-13 in the second semi.
Hawaii Hilo hoops lose to Seattle Pacific
Junior forward Devin Johnson scored a team-high 10 points off the bench as the Hawaii Hilo men’s basketball team fell to Seattle Pacific 90-59 on Friday in Seattle. Trey Ingram added nine points in the loss for the Vulcans (1-4).
Seattle Pacific outrebounded the Vulcans 42-21. Freshman forward Tony Miller finished with a game-high 22 points for the Falcons (3-1) in the win.
No. 2 Cal Baptist sweeps Silverswords
Senior outside hitter Kira Long hammered a team-high 17 kills for the Chaminade women’s volleyball squad, but visiting No. 2 Cal Baptist swept the Silverswords on senior night 25-19, 25-23, 25-16 on Saturday at McCabe Gym.
Madison Witt and Lauren Hackett recorded 12 kills each for the undefeated Lancers (28-0, 20-0 PacWest). Cal Baptist had 10 aces and outblocked Chaminade 11 to 3. The Silverswords close their season at 16-12 overall, 11-9 in PacWest play.

Freshman outside hitter Cameryn Collie led HPU with 13 kills, while Perla Escobar and Lea Felton added 11 kills each. The Sharks end their season 7-21 overall and 5-15 in the PacWest.
