Wahiawa community leader Lei Learmont was
appointed by Gov. David
Ige on Friday to replace former Rep. Marcus Oshiro in the state House of Representatives.
The seat represents
the 46th District, which
includes Wahiawa, Whitmore and Poamoho. Like Oshiro, Learmont is a Democrat. The term runs through 2018.
Learmont is a member
of the Wahiawa-Whitmore Village Neighborhood Board, as well as the Friends of the Wahiawa
Library, the Wahiawa Historical Society and the
Wahiawa Community
Business Association. She is also a member of the Democratic Party of Hawaii’s State Central Committee.
Learmont was an aide to Oshiro in 2014 and 2013, and to state Rep. Tom Brower (D, Waikiki-Ala Moana-Kakaako) in 2008. Prior to that, she was transition center coordinator for the state Department
of Education’s School to Work Transition Program. She is a graduate of the University of Oregon and Hilo High School.
Oshiro, who was first elected to the House in 1994, resigned in October when he joined the Hawaii Labor Relations Board.
