Hawaii is the worst state to drive in, according to a study released Wednesday by WalletHub.
With the lowest score out of 50 states, Hawaii ranked last when factoring in 23 key indicators, including average gas prices, rush-hour traffic congestion and road quality.
Hawaii ranked at the bottom or near the bottom across several indicators, including No. 50 for average gas prices, No. 49 in auto maintenance costs and No. 46 in road quality. Hawaii also ranked No. 35 in share of rush-hour traffic congestion. Hawaii also deals with more days with precipitation than other states and is at the bottom when it comes to the number of car washes and auto repair shops per capita.
With the lowest score of 31.83, Hawaii came in behind Washington state at No. 49, Maryland at No. 48 and California at No. 47.
The best state to drive in was Texas, which ranked No. 1 with a score of 63.68, followed by Kansas at No. 2 and Nebraska, at No. 3.
Data was collected from numerous sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau, Council for Community and Economic Research, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and American Automobile Association.
Traffic congestion, according to WalletHub, costs the average driver $1,400 per year in the U.S., which is home to 11 out of the world’s 25 worst cities for traffic.

Hawi couple faced charge following eviction incident
Hawaii County police charged Wednesday a 28-year-old woman with attempted murder for shooting at her 65-year-old landlord, who tried to evict her and her 27-year-old husband from a Hawi property on Monday.
Britney Wolf was charged with one count of first-degree attempted murder, fourth-degree criminal property damage, use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony, two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening and two counts of first-degree reckless endangering. Her bail was set at $303,000.
Police also charged her husband, Lucas Wolf, with second-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree reckless endangering and failure to register and obtain a permit for a firearm. His bail was set at $26,000.
When the couple’s landlord tried to evict them, they acted aggressively toward him, police said. When he retreated, Britney Wolf fired a single shot, but did not injure the landlord.

Pedestrian dies in hit-and-run
A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle in a hit-and-run on Maui. Positive identification of the pedestrian is pending.
Shortly after 2:25 a.m. Tuesday, police said a black 2013 Honda Civic sedan was traveling north on South Kihei Road and made a left turn into the McDonald’s parking lot. The sedan then struck a curb and hit the pedestrian.
Police said the driver and passengers exited the car and fled on foot.
