Hawaii Hilo third baseman Bailey Gaspar and shortstop Mari Kawano were named to the 2018 preseason All-PacWest softball team on Wednesday.
Gaspar, a senior from Vancouver, Wash., hit .372 with a school-record 14 home runs and 53 RBIs during the 2017 season. Kawano, a San Francisco native, was a first-team selection during her junior campaign. She hit .366 with 36 runs scored and 17 stolen bases.
Dixie State’s Janessa Bassett was named the preseason player of the year, while Concordia’s (Calif.) Grayson Harvey was named the preseason pitcher of the year. Both are seniors.
In the team poll, California Baptist was picked first out of 12 teams. Hawaii Hilo was picked seventh, Hawaii Pacific was picked ninth, and Chaminade rounded out the Hawaii teams at No. 10.
