Punahou School says it is investigating the alleged sexual abuse of two former students by a former assistant girls basketball coach.
The school says the alleged abuse occurred in 2005 and 2006 after the coach had left the school.
“We take allegations of sexual misconduct very seriously, and have policies and procedures in place to protect all our students,” said a statement released by the school Saturday.
The accused was an assistant coach of the girls basketball team from 2001 to 2004 and has not been employed by the school since, according to Punahou.
The school says an independent internal investigation is ongoing and the school is cooperating with the Honolulu Police Department.
Punahou is also providing access to counseling and support services for the former students.
Punahou says it is informing parents and will be as transparent as possible.
